Are you wanting to migrate to Australia? Whether it’s the sunshine, the lifestyle, or the career opportunities that have caught your eye, migrating to Australia is an exciting life change – and one we would love to help you with.

At the Down Under Centre, we’ve helped thousands of families and individuals make the move. This updated 2025 guide will walk you through the key steps you need to take to successfully migrate to Australia via the Skilled Visa route.

Step 1: Check Your Eligibility

First things first – you need to know which visa pathway is right for you. Australia offers several migration routes, including – Skilled Visas, Employer Sponsored Visas, and Partner Visas to name a few.

One of the most popular Visa options is the Skilled Visa route. This is a points-based system and is designed for people with occupations on Australia’s Skilled Occupation List

Ask yourself:

  • Is your occupation on the current list?
  • Do you have the relevant qualifications and work experience?
  • Are you under 45 years old?
  • Do you meet English language requirements?

You can check your eligibility on our Free Points Calculator and our team can contact you to advise on your options and offer a consultation.

Step 2: Sit your English Test

To gain valuable points towards your visa, you’ll need to prove your English ability by sitting an approved English language test. The two popular options are:

  • IELTS
  • PTE Academic

The higher your score, the more points you’ll generate towards your visa application. This can make a big difference to your overall points total – and your visa outcome.

Need help preparing? We have experts who offer English Test Tuition tailored to the Australian migration requirements, helping you get the score you need first time.

Step 3: Complete a Skills Assessment

The Skilled points-based visa requires you to complete a skills assessment. This is mandatory for skilled visas and confirms to the Australian government that you have the qualifications and experience needed to work in your trade or profession.

The Down Under Centre is proud to process skills assessments in-house for many skills and trades. We make the process smooth and stress-free, guiding you through gathering documents, preparing evidence, and submitting everything correctly.

Step 4: Lodge Your Expression of Interest (EOI)

Once you receive a positive skills assessment, and you’ve completed your English Test, you can submit your Expression of Interest (EOI). This is where you formally declare your interest in migrating to Australia. This is an essential step for anyone wanting to migrate to Australia.

This will calculate your points score based on factors like age, English ability, work experience, etc.

At this stage, our Registered Migration Agents, will dvise on which Visa subclass will be best for you.

Our expert Visa Team will help to gather the necessary documentation required for your visa application, advise on your points score, prepare and submit your EOI.

Once invited, you’ll need to submit your full visa application within the given timeframe.

We have a team of Registered Migration Agents and Visa Consultants on hand to help with your application and ensure nothing gets missed.
