If you want to migrate to Australia as an Electrician, you will need to complete the Electrician skills assessment for Australia. The Electrical skills assessment is mandatory for a skilled points-based visa. The Electrician (General) ANZSCO Code is 341111.

Electrician skills assessment process for Australia (OTSR)
It’s a three step process for the Electrician skills assessment. On completion of the skills assessment, you gain your Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR) and skills assessment result.
1. Documentary Assessment for Electrician skills assessment Australia $1,120
You need to prove you have the skills required as an Electrician, through pay and tax documents, statements of service and more.
- If you hold trade related qualifications, you’ll be asked to prove you have a minimum of 4 years’ full-time paid work experience.
- If you don’t have trade related qualifications, you’ll be asked to prove you have a minimum of 6 years’ full-time paid work experience.
You will also need to prove that you have worked as an Electrician for a minimum of 12 months in the last 36 months.
Down Under Centre Agency Service £600+ VAT
It is very important to remember that most of your evidence gathering for your Electrician skills assessment is also required for your skilled points-based or employer sponsored visa. The Down Under Centre can provide you with an Agency Service £600 + VAT to assist you with the gathering of your documentation for your Electrical skills assessment. We can also advise how many years of work experience will be required to give you maximum points for your visa to migrate to Australia as an Electrician.

2. Technical Interview for Electrician skills assessment Australia $2,000
Once you have passed the documentary assessment, you will be advised to organise your Technical Interview. Technical interviews are conducted via Zoom video link with an approved Electrical Assessor, where they will discuss your application and work experience as an Electrician.
3. Practical Assessment for Electrician skills assessment Australia $2,200
After a sucessful Technical Interview, we will liaise with you and ATTC to book your practical assessment, which we deliver monthly at our Leatherhead, Surrey UK office. The practical assessments also take place in Queensland, Australia and in the Philippines.
On completion, you will receive your OTSR (Offshore Technical Skills Record) and Skills Assessment letter as an Electrician emigrating to Australia.
Electrical GAP Training to work in Australia as an Electrician
After Electricians obtain their Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR), they can apply for a provisional licence to work under supervision in Australia and must complete the Electrical GAP Training to get their full Electrical License. Find out more about GAP Training here.

Electricians emigrating to Australia FAQs
No, it is not mandatory. To be eligible for an Electrician skills assessment Australia, you are required to either have completed an apprenticeship and hold relevant qualifications, such as NVQ 3, and 4 years’ of full-time paid work experience. Or, if you have had no formal training and/or no qualifications, you must be able to prove at least 6 years’ of full-time paid work experience as an Electrician.
TRA set the fees and they are the same regardless of which RTO processes your Australian Electrician skills assessment.
Stage 1; Documentary assessment $1,120
Stage 2; Technical interview $2,000 and Electrical practical assessment $2,200.
You pay in stages, when you are approved through each stage of the Electrician skills assessment.
A skills assessment is required for Electricians migrating to Australia so they can apply for a visa to work in Australia as an Electrician. The Electrical skills assessment is the way Australian Immigration can confirm that you have the relevant Electrical skills to match the Australian guidelines.
Even if you don’t require the Electrician skills assessment for the purposes of a visa, you will need it to become a licensed Electrician in Australia, as you require the OTSR to obtain your provisional license and commence the Electrical GAP Training.

Your TRA Electrical skills assessment is valid for 3 years from the date the skills assessment is issued.
This means you need to have received your Invitation to Apply for the Visa before the 3 years is up.
Getting a job as an Electrician in Australia will depend on the current job market; most states of Australia are searching for migrant Electricians. Electricians are a licensed trade in Australia, so you are required to hold at least your provisional plumbing registration.

If you are an Electrician hoping to migrate to Australia, you need to be between 18 and 45 years old. However, at age 18, Electricians will not have yet achieved the necessary qualifications and experience to prove their competence.
Electricians between the ages of 25-32 years old generate the maximum points for age towards their visa application.

Whilst the 482 employer sponsored visa may not require a skills assessment for some passport countries, you still need your OTSR to apply for your provisional license in Australia.
