From 14 December 2022, IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) will be available for certain test takers. OSR allows test takers to retake one of the four test components in either reading, writing, speaking or listening (once only).

For Australian visa purposes, the Department will accept IELTS test results that include OSR, with the exception of applications for subclasses 476, 482, and 485, which need scores from a single sitting/attempt.

This may not be available at all IELTS test centres, so it is down to you to confirm that this is offered at your local test centre, in your country of residence.

Holding a passport from the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada or NZ is the equivalent of the Competent Level; however, this does NOT score points towards the visa application.

The Superior Level scores 20 Points towards the visa application

If you are the Main Applicant, do not hold a passport from the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada or NZ, and do not need the points towards your visa application, you still need to achieve the Competent Level.

If you are the Dependent Partner (or Dependent Child aged over 18) on a skilled visa application and your passport is not from the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada or NZ, then you need to achieve the Functional Level.

If you are the Dependent Partner on a skilled visa application and your passport is not from the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada or NZ, then you need to achieve the Competent Level to generate 5 points towards your partner’s visa application.

Before you sit the IELTS English test, you should confirm with us which you need to take – General or Academic.

ANMAC will accept PTE and IELTS One Skill retake.
AITSL only accepts IELTS, and will accept IELTS One Skill retake.
CAA (Accountants), accept PTE and IELTS Academic One Skills retake.

Please note: This may not be available at all IELTS test centres, so it is down to you to confirm that this is offered at your local test centre, in your country of residence.
