The Down Under Centre is proud to have Australian Trade Training College(ATTC) working from its building, in Ealing Broadway, London. We work closely with ATTC to facilitate their Technical Skype interviews and work with clients to ensure that they are ready to obtain their Australian Qualification.


Step 1 – Candidate Application

Your Candidate Application Form provides your assessor with your details and some background employment information.

Complete the Candidate Application documentation provided, and a copy of your photo identification (this can be inserted into the heading page of this document).

Down Under Centre Agency Service

The Down Under Centre can provide you with an agency service to assist you at this stage as it is considered to be the most difficult stage of your visa application. It pays to make sure you gather the year’s evidence your migration agent requires correctly so that you are not going back and forth to employers. Step 2 — Candidate Self-Assessment

A list of the units in the qualification, and statements reflective of the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate competency, is provided for you to assist undertake a self-assessment/determining your level of experience and knowledge in the relevant industry in which you are applying for recognition. This asks whether you have performed the tasks frequently, sometimes or never. If never is selected, you will require gap training if the unit is selected as part of the qualification to be delivered. Documentation must be provided to support your self-assessment of frequent or sometimes performing the tasks.

This information provides the assessor with an overview of the level of your background experience to assist in determining if you are likely to be a successful candidate for RPL, whether you may have gaps in training, skills and knowledge and which units should be assessed in the Competency Conversation and Practical Assessment sections of the assessment tool.

You MUST record your self-assessment in the table provided.

You have a maximum of six (6) weeks to collect, collate and submit your evidence

Step 3 — Provide information of your skills and experience

Complete the forms that we provide with as much information and documentary evidence of your previous experience as you can. This is your first opportunity to provide proof of your variety of experience in the industry. There will be a list of mandatory documentation that you must provide and a list of useful documentation that you could include in your Candidate Kit.

You are required to provide documentary copies of examples of your work history.

Copy documents will not be returned to you, they must be retained by the RTO as evidence to support your RPL application

You may wish to send your documentary and photographic evidence electronically.

Depending on the industry you have worked in, you may or may not have documentary evidence available. This should not deter you from seeking RPL as the Assessor will work with you during the RPL process.

You will also need to supply contact details of one or two work referees who can confirm your skills in the industry.

Your assessor will contact all employers and referees listed in your application documents to verify your employment history, job roles and work performance

Step 4 — Professional / Technical Conversation with Assessor

Your assessor will review the information and evidence you have provided and begin to match your skills to the units/subjects in the qualification.

You will have the opportunity to discuss and identify your previous experience with the assessor who will understand your industry experience and conduct a technical competency conversation with you.

You will be required to answer industry related questions to identify your current skills and in certain circumstances the conversation recording sheets may be given to you and the questions will be worked through with small prompts to assist you to elaborate and outline your experiences and/or undertaking of the various tasks required of the qualification.

Your assessor will also take notes during the conversation so that there is an accurate recording made of your experiences.

Step 5 — Supervisor (Third Party) Verification

After your conversation with the assessor they will request your supervisor to complete a Third Party Verification form. This will authenticate your experience.

If you feel that for some reason your supervisor will not be able to verify your experience over a sufficient period of time, you should mention this to your assessor and discuss other options for third party verification.

Your assessor is required to verify your employment history. To do this they may contact your current or past employers / supervisors and confirm your employment.

Step 6 – Practical Demonstration of Your Skills

The assessor will conduct a practical skills test at your workplace/site or at another suitable venue.This, again, is an opportunity to demonstrate your level of competence. This assessment will be focussed on skills that are required in the qualification. Your assessor will identify theskills that he/she will want you to demonstrate, or may observe you as you go about your normal job role or duties

Further Steps

After the assessment and analysis of the evidence you have provided, your assessor will give you information about the skills that have been recognised and whether you have gained the full qualification. If you do have skill gaps, these may be addressed through further training.

Support Technicians will be able to offer support for the placement and maintenance of computer structure, net technology and the analysis and resolution of technical problems.

You will be defining software and hardware requirements to provide resolutions to problems along with replying to enquiries about any software and hardware problems. Additionally, familiarising existing programs to meet users’ requirements and installing, transferring and downloading appropriate software. Tasks also include ensuring efficient use of applications and equipment, applying computer networks and designing and sustaining websites. You’ll also be mending and replacing marginal equipment such as terminals, printers and modems.
