Working on Student Visa
Most international student visa holders are entitled to part-time work rights (20 hours per week) and are also entitled to full-time work rights for all vacations in a course of at least one academic year.
The family members of a student visa holder (partner and children) are generally eligible for a visa to accompany the student visa holder in New Zealand.
Your partner may be eligible for an open work visa which will allow them to study full time in New Zealand, if your course meets the specific requirements. Alternatively, your partner may accompany you on a visitor visa.
Similarly, if your course meets certain requirements, your dependent child(ren) may be eligible to study in New Zealand as a domestic student(s) at primary, intermediary or secondary level. This largely means fee-free education.
