To secure a positive skills assessment as a School Teacher, which is required for the points-based visas, you must have:
4 years of full-time University study with 1 year being a teaching qualification at a specific age range (i.e. Primary / Secondary). That teaching qualification must have included at least 45 days of supervised classroom teaching.
Typically, school based teaching programs (ie SCITT, Teach First) are not recognised by the skill assessing authority.
At this time School Teachers do not require any work experience to be eligible for a skills assessment.
Applicants who completed their qualifications, or hold a passport, from countries other than the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada or NZ are usually required to sit the Academic level of the International English Language Test System (IELTS) and score at least 7.0 for both Reading and Writing; and at least 8.0 for both Speaking and Listening.
The cost of the skills assessment for School Teachers is $1,050 AUD.
The DUC can assist you with your Teachers skills assessment and visa application. To find out more about what we do and what it costs, visit Skilled Visas for Australia.
