Should I complete the Australia Electrician skills assessment if I don’t need it for the visa to Australia?

To work in Australia as an Electrician you are required to hold electrical registration. To apply for your electrical registration you are required to hold your OTSR (Offshore Technical Skills Record) – you will gain this at successful completion of the Electrical skills assessment.

Whilst the 482 employer sponsored visa may not require a skills assessment for some passport countries, you still need your OTSR to apply for your provisional license in Australia. You would then need to complete the Gap Training to get a full license. https://www.downundercentre.com/gap-training-australia 

If you are applying for a 482 visa and hold a passport from one of these countries, then the Electrical skills assessment is mandatory.

  • who hold a passport issued by Fiji, Hong Kong, India, Macau, Philippines, South Africa or Vietnam; and

So, please make contact with the Down Under Centre so we can explain the process in detail. You don’t want to arrive in Australia and need to start the Electrical skills assessment as it will set you back with your plan to work in Australia as an Electrician.
