Process for Diesel Motor Mechanic Skills Assessment for Australia

The process is broken up into three stages. Diesel Motor Mechanic is not a licensed trade but many employers insist you hold your Australian diesel motor mechanic Qualification for registration and insurance purposes. It’s also important to know that each state and territory in Australia has different regulations and if you require a builders license you will need to obtain a Certificate III prior to applying for your builders License.

1. Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ):

An online self-evaluation form to make sure your skill level is at the standard immigration is looking for. Please note the mandatory requirements and how many electives you will need to complete. 2. Documentary Assessment

In short, you are required to prove you are a diesel motor mechanic have the necessary skills to work as a diesel motor mechanic in Australia. You will need to provide evidence you have a minimum of 5 years hands on training and work experience and that you have worked as a diesel motor mechanic for a minimum of 12 months out of the last 36 months.

There will be a list of mandatory documentation that you must provide and a list of useful documentation that you could include in your application such as; payslips, banking and statements of service. You will also need to supply contact details of one or two work referees who can confirm your skills in the industry.

3. Technical Skype Interview

We will organise an Australian qualified diesel motor mechanic who is also an Australian qualified trainer and assessor to discuss your application and your everyday working life as a diesel motor mechanic.

Please note that if the assessor feels that you do not have the necessary skills to work in Australia as a qualified carpenter and joiner he will ask you to provide further information or complete a practical assessment/ site visit which will be at your cost. The Down Under Centre have never had a client that has required a site visit as yet as we work closely with them to ensure that this does not need to happen. The assessors understand that you may be nervous, they will discuss your application with you in a calm manner in a relaxed environment and do all they can to assist you and put you at ease.

Carpentry and Joinery in Australia is a very well respected trade. There is a need for carpenter and joiners as Australia has a growing economy and an ageing population. In Australia carpenter and joiners need to complete a four-year apprenticeship to obtain their certificate 111 in carpenter and joiner. (ANZSCO; 331211)

Carpenters and Joiner’s complete tasks in domestic, commercial or industrial work places. It’s important to note that Joiners are expected to have experience in a work shop making timber products for fixing. Carpenters and Joiners also maintain buildings ranging in size of all sorts. Carpenter and Joiners install joinery components and cabinetry duties, construct, install and repair wooden and metal structures and erect buildings. They are required on mine sites and power stations and in cities to build high rises, flats and much more.

To work as a carpenter and joiner in Australia you will be required to work in roofing aspects including truss roofs, flat roofs and pitched roofs. You will need to be able to complete all first and second fix work including hanging doors, fixing frames around windows and doors and building kitchen and bathroom units.

Carpenter and Joiners in Australia are required to complete the following tasks.

studying drawings and specifications to determine materials required, dimensions and installation procedures Working with carpentry and joinery hand tools and electric tools. ordering and selecting timbers and materials, and preparing layouts Work with builders to plan housing structures. 1st fix and 2nd fix work. cutting materials, and assembling and nailing cut and shaped parts erecting framework and roof framing, laying sub-flooring and floorboards and verifying trueness of structures stairs. nailing fascia panels, sheathing roofs, and fitting exterior wall cladding and door and window frames ceiling framing. assembling prepared wood to form structures and fittings ready to install cutting wood joints may construct concrete formwork may repair existing fittings may work with plastic laminates, perspex and metals

Many if not all of the tasks specified are what you have or are already completing on a day to day basis in the UK. During your Australian Carpenter and Joinery Skills Assessment you will need to prove that you have the experience and know how to carry out the tasks outlined above and therefore work as a carpenter and joiner in Australia. There is currently work in Australia for carpenters and joiners.
